Our Mission

At The Compass, we provide high-quality, safe, and tailored tutoring and mentoring support packages for children and young people aged 4 to 25. We work in close partnership with Local Authorities, community support services, and the young people we support to improve their educational outcomes, skills, and life experiences. By providing the right tools, we help individuals build the confidence and knowledge they need to work towards their EHCP outcomes sucessfully.

Personalised Support for Every Child or Young Person

Every child or young person we work with is encouraged to be ambitious and have their unique learning needs supported. Whether within our facilities or beyond, we focus on a nurturing journey to optimise the potential for meaningful outcomes.

A Therapeutic Approach to Development

Our team is dedicated to fostering positive relationships with each young person, creating an environment where creative, purposeful, and flexible tuition programmes can thrive. We aim to equip each individual with the social and practical skills necessary to reach their full potential and prepare for a bright and independent future.

Mentoring & Tuition

Our experienced mentors work with children and young people to build on their strengths and skills, whilst motivating them to be the best they can be. We can work with children and young people from our base at The Compass or out in the community.

We provide flexible tuition packages at all levels of education, from Key Stage 1 to Further Education. We also offer over 100 training courses to boost CV’s, along with access to the AQA Unit Award scheme.

Our promises

Empower
Growth

We understand that re-entering education can be a daunting experience, especially for those who have faced past trauma, personal challenges, or health-related difficulties.

We promise to make the transition easier by offering:

  • Collaboration: a culture of working together with children or young people, parents or carers, schools and wider professionals.

  • Empowerment: the opportunity of choice and control over a child or young person’s educational journey with us - from day to day tasks to long term goals.

  • Individualisation: a curriculum that is creative, engaging, tailored and most importantly child centred, designed by an experienced team.

  • Safety: to offer a consistent and persistent presence, to foster an emotionally and physically safe environment.

  • Quality: sessions that are balanced between structure and flexibility, to offer the potential for maximum engagement.

Rae and Sharon provide the team with clear vision and direction, empowering individuals to contribute unique strengths. This creates a sense of unity, where the team can overcome challenges and create a meaningful and imaginative environment

We are proud to be a diverse and knowledgeable team, made up of individuals from different areas of expertise. This diversity allows us to approach challenges from multiple perspectives, leading to more inclusive and individualised solutions.

Our Learning Mentors' combined knowledge spans a wide range of fields, giving us the ability to adapt quickly, think creatively, and tackle challenges with confidence. By learning from one another and valuing each person’s unique contribution, we create a dynamic and collaborative environment. Our Learning Mentors have worked in both Alternative Provision and Mainstream Schools. They also have vast experience in working with children and young people with adverse childhood experiences and delivering a trauma informed, therapeutic approach.

Ned is our resident GFC office dog. Ned loves our young people coming to visit him in the office and joining him for walks!
